Type: Perennial
Exposure: Full Sun
Water: Regular

This herbaceous perennial is local by comparison, since it is native to eastern and mid-west North America. Commonly seen as a cut flower, Liatris forms a mound of slender grass-like leaves that emerge from corms. The flower stalks rise from these clumps, and in mid-summer are topped with foxtail-shaped, fluffy-looking spikes of magenta / purple flowers that have prominent stamens, and that open from the top down. The plant can reach a total height of between 2 to 3ft (60-90cm) with a spread of half that. To keep liatris in peak condition, divide the clumps every 3 years or so, in early spring. It’s also available in a white-flowering variety.

Cheers,

John
