Daisy Bush, Senecio

Brachyglottis greyi (Senecio greyi)

Daisy Bush, Senecio
Brachyglottis greyi or Senecio greyi
Type: Evergreen Shrub
Exposure: Full Sun
Water: Regular

This handsome shrub features greyish-green, slightly felty foliage, with the leaves being rimmed with a slender, silver lining (you can see this best in the middle photo). Early summer brings an abundance of 1in (2.5cm) yellow, daisy-like flowers that stand in contrast to the cooler colored backdrop of leaves behind them. These appear all over the shrub, in groups of 5 or more per stem. The shrub will get to 4-5ft (1.2-1.5m) high by 6ft (1.8m) wide, but can be kept smaller with pruning. The oldest stems should be cut back each winter to keep the plant rejuvenated. It’s a welcome addition to gravel or Mediterranean gardens.

Cheers,

John
