Today’s plant is among the very earliest rhodos to bloom, sometimes opening before Christmas. The rosy buds open into slightly frilly trumpets with handsome white stamens, and fade slowly to the pink blooms you see in the photos. (These were taken in mid January.) The mature height is listed as 5ft (1.5m), although the one in the photos is substantially larger, almost 10ft (3m) in fact. The leaves are oblong and glossy green year-round. These are a natural choice for open woodland settings.
