Iris unguicularis |
Winter Iris, Algerian Iris
Iris unguicularis
Type: Perennial
Exposure: Full Sun
Water: Regular to Light
This perennial forms a nest of narrow, dark green leathery leaves that can grow to 2ft (60cm) long. The primrose-scented blooms, which persist from November through March, appear on 6-9in (15-23cm) tubes that serve as stems. This particular iris needs summer heat to thrive: a south-facing location against a sheltering wall would be ideal. Pink and white-flowered varieties are also available.

John
