Yellow Loosestrife

Yellow Loosestrife
Lysimachia punctata
Type: Perennial
Exposure: Sun / Part Shade
Water: Regular

This, believe it or not, is related to Creeping Jenny, a vigorous groundcover. This guy is vigorous as well, but not as much as the creeping jenny, or its brother, purple loosestrife. Yellow Loosestrife produces 3ft (90cm) high flower spikes that rise from whorls of narrow green leaves. These flower spikes produce one inch (2.5cm) yellow, star-shaped flowers that cover the top third of the stems in late spring or early summer. These spread by underground stems to form 2ft (60cm) clumps; it’s well suited to informal areas and woodland plantings. In the top picture, it’s cozying up with Johnson’s Blue Geranium (stay tuned), and Phygelius aequalis “Coral Princess” (from just a few days ago)

Cheers,

John
