Type: Perennial
Exposure: Part to Full Shade
Water: Regular

This is one of my favorite Hostas.  One of these will light up a shady spot under a rhodo or pieris, and in a group they are showstopping. Growing to (40cm) high by 3 ft (90cm) wide, it forms a clump of oval, slightly crinkly, upward-cupped leaves that have many subtle shades of green in the center, surrounded by a wide cream to pure white variegation on the margins. The tall (30in or 75cm) purple flowers that appear in summer are more a bonus than an attraction; the foliage is the real star here. This will die to the ground each winter, just to repeat its show the following spring. It looks great in containers.

Some hostas will tolerate some sun, but this isn’t one of them. With hostas, the white and yellow variegated types need the shade.

Cheers,

John
