Abelia “Edward Goucher”

Glossy Abelia
Abelia “Edward Goucher”
Type: Evergreen / Semi-Evergreen Shrub
Exposure: Full Sun
Water: Regular

This abelia’s new growth emerges a bronzy color before changing to a deep glossy green with red highlights. This leaf color remains into the fall, before turning a plum color. Also, the leaves adjacent to the blooms are red, which compliments the blooms. Speaking of blooms, they are pink to lilac-colored, inch (2.5cm) long, lightly fragrant trumpets which have a tiny orange blotch in their centers. They emerge in early summer and persist well into autumn. It will get 5ft (1.5m) tall by 6ft (1.8m) wide with a fountain-like form that’s enhanced by the small, lacy leaves. It remains evergreen down to 15F (-9C), which doesn’t happen here in the Pacific Northwest too often.

Cheers,

John
