Foxtail Lily
Eremurus himalaicus
Type: Perennial
Exposure: Sun
Water: Regular

This imposing lily relative is well suited to the backs of borders, especially against a backdrop of dark foliage or dark-colored wall. White, bottlebrush-style flowers cover the top third or top half of spires that can tower to 8ft (2.4m) above rosettes of flat basal leaves, and that can themselves reach 18in (45cm) long. These leaves sprout from a star-shaped, fleshy rootstock, and break the ground in early spring, with the flower display starting in late spring to early summer. The flowers are impressive in arrangements; cut them when the lowest flowers on the spike bloom. If possible, plant in a location that is out of the wind.

Cheers,

John
