Alchillea “Moonshine” (Paired with Nepeta or Catmint)

Yarrow
Achillea “Moonshine”
Type: Perennial
Exposure: Full Sun
Water: Regular to Drought Tolerant

Here’s an excellent choice for an easy care summer-blooming perennial. Aromatic, ferny, grey/green foliage forms a clump 2 feet (60cm) high and wide. Flat clusters of light to lemon yellow flowers are held more or less horizontally at the end of flower stalks, and will persist from June into early fall. These blooms are popular both as dried as well as cut flowers. It’s generally considered a tough vigorous plant.

Its companion in the photographs is a Nepeta or Catmint (related to catnip). Note the very complementary foliage color as well as the striking contrast between the Yarrow’s yellow flowers and the blue Catmint blooms. And of course this only works in cases where bloom times overlap, and both plants have the same exposure and watering requirements, which is clearly the case here.

Cheers,

John
