Solomon’s Seal

Polygonatum multiflorum

Solomon’s Seal
Polygonatum multiflorum
Type: Perennial
Exposure: Part / Full Shade
Water: Regular

Here’s a shade-loving perennial that is grown as much for its form and foliage as it is for its flowers. In the spring, rhizomes produce gracefully arching stems clothed in bright green, oval leaves that run in pairs more or less horizontally along these stems. Greenish-white, bell shaped flowers are borne in twos or threes along the undersides, hanging by a threadlike stalk from the base of the leaf pairs. Leaves and stems turn yellow in autumn before disappearing for the winter. An excellent choice for woodland gardens, this plant can  reach 3ft (90cm) high by 2ft (60cm) wide in maturity.

Cheers,

John
