Blue Star Creeper

Isotoma fluviatilis

Blue Star Creeper
Isotoma fluviatilis (also Pratia pedunculata)
Type: Perennial Groundcover
Exposure: Sun / Part Shade
Water: Regular

Tiny, nearly stemless green leaves form a soft carpet that will quickly spread to 18in (45cm), but remain low, topping out at 3in (7.5cm) high. Late spring brings a profuse flush of small, soft blue, star-shaped flowers, that will stay around the whole summer. Able to tolerate foot traffic, this is a great choice for planting between stepping stones, or even as a lawn substitute. Be sure to give it lots of room though; there are reports of it being invasive if the climate agrees with it, but it seems to behave itself here with our relatively cool summers. There are white and deep blue cultivars available as well.

Cheers,

John
