Hostas are a large group of foliage plants that thrive in partial to full shade. This is a medium sized variety, forming a mound of variegated leaves to 1-3 ft (30-90cm) high and wide, which push through the ground in the spring. The leaves are a bluish-green around the margins with a yellowish green or creamy yellow center (the coloring depends on light levels). Pale lilac, lily-like flowers rise above the foliage on 2 ft (60 cm) stalks in July.

Hostas make good companion plants for ferns, where their broad, dramatic foliage contrasts with the more delicate, finely cut foliage of the fern. In the pictures, our hosta “june” is paired with the frilly Korean rock fern (polystichum tsus-simense).

Cheers,

John
