Laburnum Anagyroides

Goldenchain Tree
Laburnum Anagyroides
Type: Deciduous Tree
Exposure: Sun/ Part Shade
Water: Regular

Most laburnums are trained to be upright-growing trees, but they can be left as a large shrub by allowing basal suckers and low branches to remain. If upright, this variety will reach 20-30 ft (6-9m) high and 15-20 ft (4.5-6m) wide when mature. The main attraction arrives in spring, when 6-10in (15-25cm) long clusters of sweet pea-shaped flowers hang from the branches like bright yellow wisteria blooms. It looks good as a specimen tree, or against a neutral background. Careful, though; all parts of the plant are poisonous if ingested. So please – don’t eat your Laburnum.

A weeping variety (“pendula“) is also available.

Cheers,

John
