Wisteria sinensis |
Chinese Wisteria
Wisteria sinensis
Type: Deciduous Vine
Exposure: Full Sun / Part Shade
Water: Regular
This deciduous climber blooms in mid to late spring, just before the leaves emerge. Blooms hang from the vines in clusters up to 1 ft (30cm), and are slightly fragrant. Leaves emerge with a slight bronzy tinge, and mature to 10-12 in (25-30cm) long, divided into 7-13 leaflets. It’s related to the Japanese Wisteria, (Wisteria japonica), which has longer flower clusters. Both are excellent for growing over arbors, trellises or pergolas. Note that although the vine will do fine in part shade, it needs sun to bloom.
