Ajuga reptans “purpurea” (also Ajuga reptans “Atropurpurea”)
Type: Perennial Groundcover
Exposure: Sun/ Part Shade
Water: Regular
A versatile and vigorous plant that spreads by sending out runners, this colorful groundcover produces a display of 4-6in (9-15cm) lavender/ blue flower spikes that rise above a 4 in. (10cm) high mat of bronzy green leaves in the spring or early summer. Quite a few cultivars are available, featuring different colored and variegated leaves, and different bloom colors. Check with your local nursery to see what’s available.
Note: This guy can be quite vigorous, so make sure he has enough room to spread.
Cheers,
John
