Camassia quamash
Type: Native Perennial from Bulb
Exposure: Sun / Part Shade
Water: Regular to Moist
This long-lived bulb used to be a food crop for native peoples here in the Pacific North West. These days, it’s a treasured component of native Garry Oak meadows, valued for its bright blue display. Grass-like leaves poke through the ground in March, and form a clump that reaches 18 in (45cm) high before flowering in mid-spring. Blooms are held above the foliage to a height of 24 in (60 cm); they consist of 6 loose, slender, brilliant blue petals. Camas will naturalize readily by seed.
Cheers,
