Golden Japanese Forest Grass

Hakonechloa macra “Aureola”

Golden Japanese Forest Grass
Hakonechloa macra “Aureola”
Type: Perennial, Ornamental Grass
Exposure: Full / Part Shade
Water: Regular

This variety is the most widely purchased of all the Japanese forest grass cultivars. It forms a mound of graceful leaves, 14 in (35 cm) high by up to 3 ft (90 cm) wide.  One of the few ornamental grasses that prefers a shady location, its bright yellow and green striped leaves can really light up a shady corner. It spreads by underground runners, but not to the point of invasiveness. Also, it makes a good border edging, and a great companion for ferns and hostas.

Cheers,

John
