Evergreen Huckleberry
Vaccinium ovatum
Type: Evergreen Native Shrub
Exposure: Sun / Part Shade
Water: Regular to Drought Tolerant once established
Here’s a versatile, under-used evergreen native with lots to offer. In spring, colorful reddish-bronze new growth emerges to stand out against the bright green mature growth. Tiny whitish urn-shaped flowers hang from the branches in spring, which then turn to blue/black berries which are very edible and are frequently used in preserves. Growing to 10 ft (3m) tall by 6ft (1.8m) wide, it works well in sun or shade, where it makes a great companion for rhodos. Plus, the branches are popular in floral arrangements.
Cheers,
John
