Corkscrew Rush

Juncus effusus spiralis

Corkscrew Rush
Juncus effusus spiralis
Type: Perennial
Exposure: Sun / Light shade
Water: Ample

Rushes are grasslike plants with cylindrical stems that are topped with insignificant flowers. The stems of this particular one are magnificently contorted, making for a terrific structural accent. Growing to 30 in (75 cm) high and wide, juncus needs lots of water to be happy; in fact some people use this as an aquatic plant, or a marginal (bog) plant. If planted on “dry” land, keep it moist.

Cheers,

John
