Snake’s Head, Checkered Lily
Fritillaria meleagris
Type: Perennials From Bulbs
Exposure: Light Shade
Water: Regular to Ample

This perennial is most at home in meadows and woodlands. 12in (30cm) high flower stalks rise above tufts of grassy leaves. Each stalk ends in a nodding, 2in (5cm), boxy, bell-shaped flower in shades of purple, pink or white. The blooms themselves have a checkered pattern that looks a bit like snakeskin. It’s great for naturalizing in grassy areas.

Cheers,

John
