Pachysandra terminalis

Japanese Spurge
Pachysandra terminalis
Type: Evergreen Perennial Groundcover
Exposure: Full or Part Shade
Water: Regular

Pachysandra is the most widely planted evergreen groundcover. Its glossy evergreen evergreen foliage reaches 6-12in (15-30cm) and forms a low mat, spreading by underground rhizomes. Small white flowers arrive in the spring. It works great as a groundcover near the front of borders and in woodland settings. More compact varieties, as well as a variegated one, are available.

Pachysandra terminalis is another example of a plant that behaves itself here in Victoria, BC, but not so much elsewhere. It has been reported as invasive in the northeastern USA. If you live in or east of Wisconsin or Illinois, or north of N Carolina and Tennessee, make sure you check with your local nursery expert before planting one of these. Or just avoid it altogether.

Cheers,

John
