Irish Moss

Sagina subulata

Irish Moss
Sagina subulata
Type: Perennial, Small Scale Groundcover
Exposure: Sun / Part Shade
Water: Regular

Unlike true moss, this rich green creeping perennial produces profuse, tiny white flowers starting in late spring. Its fine texture, creeping habit, and ability to tolerate foot traffic make it a great choice for planting between flagstones. It’s not happy in full shade or in full sun in hotter summer areas. “Scotch Moss” is a yellow / green variation of the same plant: Sagina subulata glabrata “Aurea.” This makes a great companion plant for Brass Buttons (yesterday) since they can both tolerate being trod upon.

Cheers,

John
