Pieris “Forest Flame”
Type: Evergreen Shrub
Exposure: Light or Partial Shade
Water: Regular
This graceful shrub features narrowly oval, glossy, evergreen foliage which emerges brilliant red, then fades through pink and cream before turning to a medium to dark green. Flower buds that resemble a string of beads (which appeared in fall), open to produce hanging masses of creamy white, urn-shaped, lily-of-the-valley type flowers. This is generally a great-looking shrub all year, as long as it gets protection from hot summer afternoons. It makes a great companion for rhodos and azaleas, so it’s frequently seen in Japanese gardens. Ultimately, it will reach 6-10 ft (1.8-3m) tall by half as wide.
Cheers,
John
