Dryopteris pulcherrima |
Beautiful Wood Fern
Dryopteris pulcherrima
Type: Evergreen Fern
Exposure: Shade
Water: Regular
Yet another one for Jill, who hates all ferns!
“Beautiful” is actually part of the name here, presumably because “pulcherrima” is Latin for “beautiful.” This fresh-looking evergreen is relatively new to the market, and is proving to be quite tolerant of hot summer temperatures where other ferns fail. It grows to 2 ft (60cm) tall and wide. But it does need shade, especially in hot summer locations.
Cheers,
John
