This shade loving perennial features nearly evergreen, heart-shaped leaves that are suspended on thin, delicate looking wiry stems. These leaves  have a bronzy tinge in the spring and in the fall; and a deep green in the summer. Loose, slightly disheveled-looking spikes of butter-yellow flowers rise above the foliage in the spring. It spreads by underground stems, and is an excellent groundcover for under rhododendrons, azaleas, and woodland settings. This epimedium grows to 8-12 in (20-30 cm) high and 12-18 in (30-45 cm) wide.
