Sarcoccoca hookeriana var. humilis
Type: Evergreen Shrub
Exposure: Partial to Full Shade
Water: Regular
Today’s plant is a lower, spreading variety of sarcoccoca, reaching only 12-18in (30-45cm) high, but spreading to 3-5 ft (0.9-1.5m) wide. The evergreen leaves are narrow, dark and glossy green. In late January to February, small, frilly, whitish flowers appear above the leaves. While these flowers may not look impressive, they certainly smell impressive; plant near a doorway to take full advantage of its sweet fragrance. Small round black berries often appear after the flowers.
Cheers,
John
