Here’s one for the milder regions of our zone (we’re USDA zone 8). Listed as hardy to -8C (18F), this evergreen native of South Africa forms a deep green tuft of handsome, finely cut foliage on bamboo-like culms that will reach 6 to 8ft (1.8 to 2.4m) tall by half as wide. Profuse, bronzy-brown flower tufts appear in autumn and persist through winter. Note that this guy likes water; plant in moisture retentive soil and keep it constantly moist, but not water logged.
