Himalayan Birch

Betula utilis jacquemontii

Himalayan Birch, White Birch
Betula utilis jacquemontii
Type: Deciduous Tree
Exposure: Sun
Water: Regular

This tall, narrow tree from India has the most brilliantly white bark of any of the birches. Rich green leaves and cone-shaped fruit cover the tree in the spring. Himalayan birches grow about 1.5 ft (45cm) per year to a height of 40 ft (12m) then slower to its eventual height of 60ft (18m) by 20ft (6m) wide. Leaves turn bright yellow in fall, before dropping to reveal the luminous white bark for the off-season. Good as a single specimen, or planted in groups.

Cheers,

John
