In the spirit of maintaining the festive theme, I give you the Yuletide Camelia

This a densely compact shrub, with slow growth to 4-6ft (1.2-1.8m) high and wide. The dark, glossy green foliage becomes a backdrop to a multitude of fragrant, vivid red, single blooms with yellow centers in mid winter (these photos were taken in mid-January.)  It likes being kept consistently moist. It gets along well with rhodos, and looks great in a shady border or an open woodland. Try for a spot with light shade; full sun tends to scorch the foliage, but deeper shade tends to reduce the blooms.
