Sargent’s Weeping Hemlock

 Tsuga canadensis “pendula”

Sargent’s Weeping Hemlock
Tsuga canadensis “pendula”
Type: Coniferous Evergreen shrub
Exposure: Sun / Part shade
Water: Regular

This graceful mounding hemlock grows to 5 ft (1.5m) tall and 10ft (3m) wide. Its multi-layered mound of dark green needles looks great as a specimen plant, especially in large rock gardens. Each needle has a pair of white stripes on its underside. Light brown, thimble-shaped cones may appear on mature plants, but are not considered especially ornamental. Weeping Hemlocks look especially good around water features.

Fun Fact: This is not the Hemlock from Shakespeare; no part of this one is poisonous. But maybe avoid eating it, anyway.

Cheers,

John
