Portugal Laurel
Prunus lusitanica
Type: Broadleaf Evergreen
Exposure: Full Sun
Water: Regular, drought tolerant once established

The dense branching habit and glossy evergreen foliage makes this a great choice for a hedge, but it can also be trained into a single-trunked tree. As a large shrub, it can reach 10 – 20ft (3-6m); as a tree, 30ft (9m) Tiny, slightly fragrant white flowers in 5-10 in (13-25cm) spikes appear in spring and last into early summer, followed by clusters of red fruit that matures to dark purple. Makes a terrific background plant for plants with contrasting foliage.

Cheers,

John
