Serbian Spruce
Picea omorika
Type: Coniferous Evergreen
Exposure: Sun / Light Shade
Water: Regular to Light
This handsome conifer is being more and more widely used in both commercial and residential landscapes, mostly owing to its uniquely narrow columnar habit. The Serbian Spruce slowly grows to 60ft (18m) tall while only spreading to a svelte 10ft (3m) wide. Dark green needles that are silvery underneath cover branches that droop downwards before sweeping back up towards their ends, often reaching right to the ground. The bark matures to a scaly brown; the cones start out purplish before maturing to brown. A dwarf variety, “Nana” is also available.
