Dwarf Mugo Pine
Pinus mugo “Pumilio”
Type: Coniferous Evergreen Shrub
Exposure: Sun
Water: Regular
This diminutive pine is a useful, versatile, and tough landscape plant. The Dwarf Mugo is part of a very variable group of pines, the largest of which can become a large tree in the wild, while these slow-growing little guys max out at only 5ft (1.5m) tall by twice as wide, and it takes 10 years to reach that size. Dark green, 2in (5cm) needles are densely packed onto the branches in pairs, and tend to get a bit of a yellow tinge in winter. Cones are small, brown and oval. Use the Pumilio Mugo Pine in rock gardens, informal or cottage gardens, or in spots that are exposed to coastal winds.
Cheers,
John
