Strawberry Tree
Arbutus Unedo
Type: Evergreen Shrubs or Small Trees
Exposure: Sun / Part Shade
Water: Regular to Little Water
These large shrubs or small trees are prized for their colorful fruits, evergreen foliage and plentiful flowers. Maturing to 16ft (4.8m) high and wide, the Strawberry Tree has year-round, leathery, glossy green, pointed oval leaves. Creamy white, tiny, bell shaped flowers hang in profuse clusters in autumn, producing round, rough textured, reddish fruits the following autumn, so that fruit and flowers are present at the same time. The branches have a rich reddish-brown color and tend to become twisted or gnarled at maturity. The fruits are edible, but generally considered mealy and tasteless. So I guess feel free to eat your strawberry tree. If you must.
Cheers,
John
