Type: Evergreen Shrub
Exposure: Part Shade
Water: Regular

This relatively new cultivar of leucothoe is a dense, colorful, dwarf version of the larger, more commonly seen varieties. Growing to only 18in (45cm) high by 1ft (30cm) wide, Little Flames features glossy green, pointed oval leaves which are red when they first open, and then turn completely red in autumn and over the winter. White spring flowers are slightly fragrant and resemble tiny bells, much like heather blooms. This makes a good container plant, as well as a good choice for the rock garden, or for growing under larger shrubs, especially since it does best with some shade and shelter. While it can be grown in full sun, it will require constant moisture if this is the case. It’s said to be a low-maintenance shrub.

Cheers,

John
