Oxalis vulcanicola “Zinfandel”
Type: Annual
Exposure: Full Sun
Water: Regular
The name “Zinfandel” may refer to the wine-red leaves on this small but colorful annual. Attractive, 3/4in (2cm) burgundy shamrocks form a clump 6in (15cm) tall but sprawling to a foot (30cm). Delicate but profuse bright yellow, five-petaled flowers cover the plant in late summer to early fall in rich contrast to the purple foliage. It’s frost tender, which means it will die when the temperature drops below 32F (0C), but it can be overwintered as a houseplant. Besides, it looks amazing spilling over the side of a container (as in the pictures).
Cheers,
John
