These Mexican natives can reach as tall as 8ft (2.4m) with a width of up to 2.5ft (75cm) in a single growing season, and will usually not require staking. The foliage is medium green, finely cut and ferny, producing an open clump. Three to four inch (7.5-10cm) daisy-like blooms with tufted yellow centers open in early summer and persist until frost. These blooms are available in hues of purple, red, pink, mauve and white. When they fade, these can be removed to prolong the blooming period, or left in place to go to seed and self sow. Available cultivars offer double and semi-double, as well as dwarf and bi-colored varieties. It can be grown from seed or from nursery stock in pots.
