Cardinal Flower
Lobelia hybrida “Queen Victoria”
Type: Perennial
Exposure: Sun / Part Shade
Water: Regular to Moist

This would be the definition of a showstopper. A bog plant in its natural habitat, the cardinal flower produces a clump of upright stalks that will reach 4-5ft (1.2-1.5m) tall by 1-2ft (30-60cm) wide. The stalks are covered with leaves that emerge green-(ish), then mature to a striking reddish-maroon color. In late summer, flower stalks are tipped with a brilliant red bloom that’s so bright it seems to glow, which lasts into autumn. It’s valued for providing a contrasting foliage color to perennial borders, and for late season bloom. Make sure it has lots of water throughout the growing season.

Cheers,

John
