Type: Semi-Evergreen Shrub
Exposure: Sun / Part Shade
Water: Regular / Light Once Established

While Winter Daphne does its thing in February, this one is at its best during the summer months. Growing to 4 feet (1.2m) high, and spreading as much as 6 feet (1.8m), “Summer Ice” is a dense, well-behaved shrub that features a discreet margin of creamy-white variegation on its dark green leaves. These leaves will decorate the shrub year round through most of our winters, although an exceptionally cold one will cause them to drop. Not to worry though, they’ll be back in spring. Flowers are the typical Daphne “nosegay” shape, mostly white with a subtle pink blush, and appear in clusters at the branch ends. They are exceptionally long lasting (potentially from April through November) and are said to be fragrant, but to tell the truth, I’ve not really noticed any scent at all from the few I have. Maybe it’s just me…

By the way, I’m told that this one does not like containers.

Cheers,

John
