This New Zealand native forms an upright clump that reaches 2ft (60cm) high and wide, and is prized for its handsome foliage. The toothed leaves emerge red, and mature to a striking glossy bronze, adding a splash of unique color to a mixed border. Insignificant, reddish flowers arrive in autumn, and are somewhat hidden in the leaf axils. Here in zone 8 (usda), it usually holds on to its foliage all year. It works well in a woodland setting, as well as near the front of a mixed border where it can provide color contrast with other foliage and flowers.

Cheers,

John
