Arundinaria variegata |
Dwarf White-Striped Bamboo
Arundinaria variegata
Type: Evergreen Ornamental Grass
Exposure: Sun / Part Shade
Water: Regular
This compact, evergreen bamboo grows only to 4ft (1.2m) tall by 5ft (1.5ft) wide. It spreads by underground rhizomes to form tufts of slender, hollow, pale green canes. Each cane produces many branches at each node, which in turn hold 4-8in (10-20cm), narrowly triangular leaves, each with showy, variable, cream-colored stripes or bands running along their length. Although not as aggressive as some other larger bamboos, this can spread widely if a root barrier of some sort is not used; check your nursery supply place for what’s available in your area (please see the post for Black Bamboo on the 7th of last month for more on this). Another option would be to grow this guy in a container or a pot – their compact size makes them well suited for this.
Cheers,
John
