“Wine and Roses” is one of many new varieties of an old garden favorite. Forming a dense, medium- sized shrub that will reach 4-5ft (1.2-1.5m) high and wide, it can be used as an accent in a border, or planted in groups as an informal hedge. Glossy burgundy-purple leaves darken to a rich dark purple in autumn. Mid-to late spring sees the arrival of pinkish-red funnel-shaped flowers in such profusion that the plant is virtually covered in bloom. These blooms appear along branches of both new and old growth, so you can look forward to some re-blooming later in the season, as you can see in the photos; these were taken in mid-September. Also, they are attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies.

Cheers,

John
