Pink Guernsey Lily

Nerine Bowdenii

Pink Guernsey Lily
Nerine Bowdenii
Type: Perennial from Bulb
Exposure: Sun / Part Shade
Water: Regular

This deer resistant, fall blooming bulb has light green, strap-shaped leaves that will reach about 1 ft (30cm) long before dying back in winter. From summer until frost, lightly fragrant, pink blooms with darker pink accents are held atop 24in (60cm) leafless stems. Each bloom is about 3in (7.5cm) and funnel-shaped, with 6 frilly petals that curl back at the tips. Taller forms, as well as red-flowered varieties are also available. Plant these about 2-3in (5-7.5cm) deep, with 3 or 4 per square foot. They work well in containers.

Fun Fact: The Guernsey Lily is neither a real lily, nor is it from anywhere close to Guernsey (It’s South African). No wonder I have trust issues.

Cheers,

John
