Eurybia divaricata |
White Wood Aster
Eurybia divaricata
Type: Perennial
Exposure: Partial to Full Shade
Water: Regular to Light
This plant is native to eastern North America, from Georgia to Northern Quebec and Ontario, and is found in dry open woodlands. Growing to 30in (75cm) tall and wide, it forms a fresh-looking mound of pointed green leaves, and loose, flat-topped clusters of delicate-looking flowers at the branch ends, which arrive in August and September. These 1in (2.5cm) blossoms consist of narrow, snow-white petals surrounding centers that are randomly red or yellow. This is a good choice for sprawling under shrubs, or at the edge of a woodland border. It attracts butterflies, too.
