This staple of the fall border is pretty much the definition of reliable and durable. It forms a 2ft (60cm) high and wide clump of attractive, green succulent leaves that emerge in the spring. Rounded flower clumps that look like huge pink broccoli florets appear in August, and persist into late fall. From pink, they age to a brighter pinkish red, then slowly fade to a season-appropriate copper hue. Even when they’re dead, the flower heads can lend some winter interest. They make great companions for ornamental grasses, and are particularly effective in mass plantings. Butterflies and bees are drawn to them.
Cheers,
